Continuous burial depth monitoring of power cable
With fiber optic technology, Fluves can measure continuously the sediment height on top of a power cable. In october 2015 Fluves was awarded a project for the VMM (Flemish Government) to measure on an hourly basis the bathymetry of a sediment trap in a river. The VMM will use the morphodynamic information to optimise the dredging cycle of the trap & to improve the design of future sediment traps.
A hybrid cable is used, which combines a power cable with a fiber optic cable. This fiber optic cable measures precisely temperature changes, which can be related to bathymetrical heights.
The system will be operational during 2016.
